Risk Assessment - City Aluminium Works

Conducted a comprehensive workplace risk assessment for the "City Aluminium Works".

Role:

OHS Risk Assessor (trainee)

Overview:

  • Risk Assessment Contribution: Assisted in conducting a full structured workplace risk assessment for City Aluminium Works (an aluminium fabrication workshop), focusing on safety hazards and compliance with OHS standards.
  • Documentation: Developed a professional risk assessment report, strengthening analytical, documentation, and safety compliance skills.
  • Learning & Training: Gained practical exposure to NEBOSH IGC methodologies, including hazard identification, risk evaluation, and control measures.

Challenges and Solutions:

Challenge Solution
Completing the full risk assessment report within only 10 days of 6–8 hours daily work was demanding. Set daily milestones with a fixed schedule.
As a beginner, understanding OHS terms and applying risk assessment techniques was difficult. Studied NEBOSH guidance and applied concepts directly.
Writing and structuring the report strictly according to NEBOSH criteria was unfamiliar. Followed the official template and marking guide.
Long study hours caused fatigue and reduced focus. Took short breaks and reviewed work for clarity.

Overview:

  • Crafted a Single-Page Website Portfolio: Showcased my expertise in HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and various other programming languages by developing a sleek and responsive single-page website portfolio.
  • Developed My GitHub Site Portfolio: Utilized HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to design and launch a comprehensive portfolio on GitHub, highlighting my skills, experiences, projects, and much more in a professional and accessible manner.
  • Enhanced Portfolio Accessibility: Created a comprehensive projects page that showcases an in-depth view of every portfolio project, covering skills utilized, project tasks, roles, project overviews, relevant links, project duration, challenges and solutions encountered, client/team details, key achievements, and related previews. Organized individual project details into a dedicated GitHub-hosted projects page, ensuring clarity, structure, and accessibility.
  • Developed a Professional Experience Page: Published a well-organized experience page highlighting my career journey, key contributions, and practical expertise in diverse fields.

Challenges and Solutions:

Challenge Solution
Less knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. First improved skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Hosting my PNGs and publishing the portfolio. Created some GitHub repositories to publish the portfolio (static website).
The portfolio was looking good on big screens but bad response on smaller screens. Learned some CSS codes to fit the site on smaller screens (mobile-responsive site).
Less social engagement due to intense focus (because of weak skills) on developing the page. Scheduled regular breaks and allocate specific times for social activities to balance project work and personal connections.
Difficulty in deciding between different design options for the page. Organized design options with a decision chart to evaluate and select the best one.

  • 48-Page LaTeX Basics Notebook: Authored a detailed guide on the basics of LaTeX, covering the essential concepts and techniques.
  • 302-Page Notebook on MATLAB Programming: Developed a comprehensive notebook titled "Introduction to Programming with MATLAB" by meticulously studying the course video content.
  • 423-Page Web Development Masterpiece: Created an extensive notebook on "Introduction to Web Development with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript" after an in-depth study of a video course on web development, showcasing my proficiency with LaTeX and web development skills.
  • 61-Page SEO Course Compilation: Compiled a thorough notebook on "SEO (Search Engine Optimization)" from a course videos, demonstrating my ability to translate learning into structured, valuable content.

Challenges and Solutions:

Challenge Solution
Zero knowledge of LaTeX programming. Learned some basics to start compiling simple PDFs.
Frequent compilation errors (e.g, missing packages, undefined references, overfull boxes). Used step-by-step debugging, package documentation, AI, and online LaTeX forums to fix issues
Finding and setting up a reliable LaTeX compilation environment (e.g., MiKTeX, TeX Live, VS Code etc). Adopted Overleaf.com to simplify setup and enable seamless online LaTeX compilation.
Too much time required to compile 4 books. Balanced daily life with the project by planning substantial time, effort, and passion for the project.
